RUMOUR: SSS ARRESTS 11 PDP MEN DURING BALLOT THUMB PRINT

Operatives of the Department of State Security on Tuesday night arrested 11 men, believed to be associates of ex-Governor Ayo Fayose, as they thumb-printed ballot papers ahead of the governorship election holding in the state Saturday, witnesses and security officials.

The men were arrested at Anisulowo Resort in Are Ekiti, a facility belonging to the Director General of the Fayose Campaign Organisation, Dipo Anisulowo, as they prepared ballot papers they ostensibly planned to use in rigging the election in favour of Mr. Fayose, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election.

This newspaper understands that the security operatives deployed to the state on special election duty swooped on the resort after residents of the town alerted them to the movement of strange materials into the facility.

When the operatives stormed the location, our sources said, 22 men were found sitting around a heap of ballot papers, and other election materials.

Eleven of them were arrested and driven to the SSS headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, where they are currently being detained. The others reportedly escaped.

Babafemi Ojudu, a Senator, and close associate of Governor Kayode Fayemi (the candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the election) told PREMIUM TIMES the men were arrested hours after “some viligant residents raised the alarm that three planes landed in Akure with ballot papers and other election materials which were later loaded into buses and moved to Ekiti”.

Mr. Fayose and his associates did not respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ requests for comments. The PDP governorship candidate did not answer or return calls, just as Mr. Anisulowo, who leads his campaign. Both individuals are also yet to respond to text messages sent to them.

The SSS Director in Ekiti, a Mr. Tamuno, also did not answer or return calls. He is also yet to reply a text message sent to him.

The arrest of the 11 men came four days after the Nigerian military announced it apprehended three persons with a truck laden with outdated election materials in the state.

The Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Ondo State, Aliyu Momoh, a Brigadier General, said the men were caught moving ballot papers from 2008, 2009 and 2011; Independent National Electoral Commission’s reflective jackets; 2014 INEC rubber stamps and pads.

However, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Aliyu Pai, later told Punch Newspapers that the materials were waste papers and had been auctioned by INEC.

“It is approved by the National Commission for the company to evacuate the obsolete materials to enable us prepare for the coming election because these are junks that have filled the store,” he said.

“There is an approval by the National Commission. They are known to us and they are in no way connected to this election. They are materials of 2007, 2009 and there is approval for its evacuation.”

The run-up to the June 21 election has been characterised by violent clashes with the major political parties pointing accusing fingers at one another. Matters got to a head about two weeks ago when mobile police officers shot at the governor of the state, Mr. Fayemi, and his supporters during a rally in the state capital, Ado-Ekiti.

BREAKING NEWS!!! - ALAO ARISEKOLA IS DEAD!!!

News reaching us states that Abdulazeez Arisekola Alao, a controversial businessman who was based in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, died yesterday at a hospital in Switzerland.

A family source confirmed Mr. Alao’s death to our correspondent, stating that the cause was colon cancer. The source also stated that the remains of the deceased businessman were being conveyed to Nigeria for burial as early as tomorrow in keeping with Muslim rites.

In 1980, a group of Islamic clerics named him the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, making him one of the most notable Islamic figures in Nigeria’s southwest.

Apart from being a prominent Muslim figure in Nigeria, Mr. Alao was also known for his cozy relationship with the late General Sani Abacha, one of Nigeria’s most repressive dictators. Mr. Alao, who was born in 1945, started out as a trader in his youth and grew into a businessman with investments in real estate, auto sales, news media, and flourmills. Like many Nigerian business owners, he depended on the patronage of political leaders to maintain the image of having vast wealth.

In 2011, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc filed a lawsuit seeking an order to declare Mr. Alao bankrupt. The lawsuit arose from a loan of close to N7 billion that Mr. Alao had taken from the bank but failed to service. The late Mr. Alao was married to several wives and many children.

CHIBOK GIRLS MAY NEVER RETURN- OBASANJO

Some of the schoolgirls abducted by militant group Boko Haram may never return home, Nigeria's influential former president Olusegun Obasanjo said today.

Obasanjo said President Goodluck Jonathan's administration had taken too long to respond to the April mass abduction. The warning from Obasanjo, who stepped down in 2007 and nurtured Jonathan's own rise to power, will dismay parents who have now waited 60 days for any news of their daughters, taken from a school in the village of Chibok in northeast Nigeria.

+3Grim prediction: The former president of Nigeria has said he does not believe all of the school girls taken by Boko Haram, seen here in a video released by their kidnappers, will return home Once Jonathan's mentor and one of his strongest political allies, Obasanjo turned against him last December.‘I believe that some of them will never return. We will still be hearing about them many years from now,’ Obasanjo told the BBC's Hausa-language radio service on Thursday, in comments echoed in an interview with Nigeria's Premium Times website.

I SPEND 500,000 TO MAKE MY HAIR- SINGER MUMA GEE

New mother of twin and actress/singer Muma Gee during an interview with Punch talks about fashion and style. She said she invest a lot of money as much as N500,000 to make her hair.

I agree. I invest a lot in my hair. A lot of cash, energy and time go into my hair. It takes like eight hours to get my hair done. Basically, it is a special and patient person that can do my hair. Not everybody has the patience or can be meticulous enough to do my hair.

The hair piece alone costs a lot of money, especially in these days of human hair. I normally use 11 packs of human hair and each piece is not less than N60, 000. At theend of the day, I end up spending about N500, 000 to do myhair at once.It is my style. I like to have that kind of personality. I just want a particular kind of look. At times, my hair might look scanty but a lot would have gone into it.When asked about how many pairs of shoes she has, she said:I have about 500 pairs and still counting. There are some I have not worn for over two years and they are still trendy, I love heels.

When asked about Tattoos, she said:I am sorry to say this but I believe tattoos are evil. I mightbe naive and I am not trying to be hypocritical. You leave your skin in the hands of another person and you don’t know what the person is hiding under that inscription on your body. You don’t know when you are given a mark that God wouldn’t want you to have. I don’t wear it and I don’t intend to. If I must wear tattoo, it must be temporaryand just for the show of it.
